Supporting Students Outside the Classroom

The Center for Student Success (CSS) provides a holistic approach to support students outside of the classroom. Our services include Clinical Counseling, Disability Services, TRiO SSS Program, Tutoring, CLEP Testing, and basic Academic Support. All of these services are delivered from a Christ-likeness perspective and are designed to assist the student in their interpersonal, emotional, academic, and psychological growth.

One-on-one Student Counseling

Our team of qualified mental health counselors is committed to working with IWU-Marion students in one-on-one counseling to help them deal with various cognitive, emotional and behavioral concerns so that they can take full advantage of the opportunities provided to them during their college years. Depression, anxiety, addictions, relationship concerns, and many other issues may be addressed in a voluntary, confidential and supportive environment with our counselors.

Additionally, we have partnered with a Telehealth organization called TimelyCare to deliver free counseling services year-round during and after office hours, including scheduled counseling, 24/7 on-demand counseling, and health coaching.

Accessibility and Accommodation Services

We work cooperatively with students to help them reach their maximum academic, social, and personal potential. This is achieved by integrating legal expectations, Indiana Wesleyan's standards of service, and Christ-like principles.

The Director of Accessibility and Accommodations is a trained professional responsible for determining accommodation eligibility and coordinating office services for students with disabilities. The Director works with the students, faculty, and staff to coordinate a plan of reasonable accommodations that allow for equal access to all areas of university life.

Any request for accommodations will be considered. For an accommodation to be granted, it must be supported by documentation and deemed reasonable. Reasonable means that it meets the student's needs and does not alter any core components of the university's courses or academic curriculum.

  • Academic Accommodations
  • Non-Academic Accommodations
  • Housing Accommodations
  • Dietary Accommodations

Equal Access

Indiana Wesleyan University is committed to inclusion and equal access for individuals with disabilities. Individuals will not be discriminated against based on disability or be denied equal access.

"No otherwise qualified person with a disability in the United States shall, solely on the basis of disability, be denied access to, or the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any program or activity in any institution receiving federal financial assistance." - Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

Admissions

Admission decisions are made without regard to disabilities. All prospective students are expected to present academic credentials that meet or exceed the minimum requirements for admissions.

Prospective students with disabilities are not required to identify themselves to the Admissions Office or Accessibility and Accommodations Services. However, those interested in receiving academic accommodations are encouraged to meet with or contact Accessibility and Accommodations Services as early as possible to allow for a review of documentation and the formulation of an accommodation plan.

TRiO Student Support Services Program

Funded 100% by the U.S. Department of Education, the Indiana Wesleyan University TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Program supports eligible students in transition from high school through college graduation, by motivating them toward academic, personal, and social self-determination.

TRiO SSS advisors work individually with students to assess and anticipate academic, career, and personal needs. Advisors use various assessment tools to determine each student's abilities and needs.

These assessments aid students and advisors in developing an Individualized Retention Plan (IRP) that is used to identify and work toward semester goals that help students improve and succeed academically.

Academic support is provided on many topics and through both individual training and workshops, including:

  • One-on-One Tutoring
  • Academic Accountability
  • Support from Trained Advisor
  • Time Management Training
  • Study Skills Training
  • Student Advocacy
  • Interpersonal Skills Training
  • Financial Management Training
  • Disability Support
  • Grant Aid for Eligible Students
  • Free Printing and Copying

Federal law regulates qualifications for the TRiO SSS Program. Students are eligible if they show a need for academic support and meet one of the following criteria:

First Generation Student

A student's parents (or the single parent that a student lives with) have not earned a bachelor's level college degree.

Low Income Student

Parents' TAXABLE income (or the single parent's taxable income) does not exceed the level established by the U.S. Department of Education for family size. These figures are available on the TRIO application.

Student With a Disability

The student has a documented disability and has/will submit these documents to the Director of Disability Services at IWU.

Applications for participation in the TRiO SSS Program are available in the Center for Student Success office (Barnes Student Center, Room 220.)

Current IWU students can also download the application from MyIWU.
