Empowering Kingdom Diversity

As an expression of IWU-Marion’s commitment to Kingdom diversity and belonging, the Intercultural & Global Office is dedicated to celebrating diversity, cultivating belonging, and creating opportunities in our community.

This is accomplished through academic support, student services, co-curricular events & programs. We envision a vibrant and inclusive community distinguished by a culturally responsive curriculum with campus experiences that reflect our commitment to the multicultural Kingdom of God. In short, because we are Wesleyan, we are compelled to be diverse, inclusive, and practice belonging in a manner that represents Jesus.

How We Live Out Our Values

The pursuit of inclusivity and inclusive excellence at IWU-Marion is an institutional commitment shaped by our Wesleyan heritage and beliefs. As such, we explore avenues for inclusive learning, understanding, and development in the classroom, and out, to all students, faculty, and staff. We provide intercultural seminars, trainings, and workshops to aid in our pursuit of inclusive excellence.

ADMINISTRATIVE OVERSIGHT AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT FOR MULTICULTURAL STUDENTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS, RETENTION, AND CAMPUS CLIMATE

The pursuit of educational equity, access and desire to positively impact the success of incoming and current underrepresented groups (students of color, first generation college students, and low-income students) is an institutional distinctive at IWU.

IGO provides administrative oversight for:

  • Campus Equity Response Team
  • Luther Lee and Multicultural Endowed Scholarships
  • Affinity Groups of diverse/intercultural student groups

IGO also pursues:

  • Participation in campus-wide retention and support committees
  • Ongoing research on Access and Equity for underrepresented and underserved students in higher education
IWU, in covenant with God’s reconciling work and in accordance with the biblical principles of our historic Wesleyan tradition, commits to build a community that reflects kingdom diversity. We will foster an intentional environment for living, teaching and learning, which exhibits honor, respect, and dignity. Acknowledging visible or invisible differences, our community authentically values each member’s earthly and eternal worth. We refute ignorance and isolation and embrace deliberate and courageous engagement that exhibits Christ’s commandment to love all humankind.

We empower students, staff, and faculty to carry out Kingdom Diversity
