These longer-term experiences of 3-16 weeks give students the chance to truly immerse themselves in partner communities, both domestically and internationally. Because these programs are longer and highly varied, they require initiative and attention-to-detail from participants.
Students should connect with Academic Affairs Office (AAO) at least 10 months in advance as there are many steps involved with long term experiences for programs like: semester abroad/away, cross cultural teaching and international internship.

These domestic and international semester-long programs are run by third party providers who have been thoroughly vetted by IWU’s Risk Management Office. To be approved, they must have a strong intercultural component and similar lifestyle standards to the IWU Marion campus. Courses at these programs count towards IWU GPAs and academic standing. IWU student participants are eligible for their federal and state aid, but they are ineligible to receive their IWU aid for any terms during which they do an affiliate program.

School of Teacher Education
Facilitated by the IWU School of Teacher Education, the cross-cultural student teaching process is designed for soon-to-be professionals’ development in a variety of areas. Participants will gain a global perspective of educational opportunities, broaden cultural insights in the field, explore a calling to serve in cross-cultural settings, expand instructional strategies, develop skills to serve others, and experience what it is like to change the world, one student at a time.

This option to find an international host organization for your practical requirement demands a significant amount of initiative. However, by carefully following the steps outlined by the Academic Affairs Office (AAO) and communicating effectively with your advisor(s), you can have a powerful global learning experience.
