Commencement FAQs

Tickets are not required to attend any of the ceremonies.

Each Commencement Ceremony is unique, but we recommend planning for a 90-ish minute ceremony.
The most convenient parking lots are near Chapel Auditorium and the Phillippe Performing Arts Center (Southeast corner of campus.)

There are several hotels, campgrounds, and bed and breakfast options in Marion and the nearby towns of Gas City, Muncie, Kokomo and Anderson.

Check out this short list of nearby lodging options.

  • Consider a walking tour of the campus.
  • Enjoy a moment of family prayer in the Williams Prayer Chapel.
  • Be sure to grab a photo at the IWU arch sign at 41st & Washington St. (Near Goodman Hall.)

For the safety and security of our guests, all prohibited items must be returned to the owner's vehicle or discarded prior to entry. There are no provisions to check prohibited bags or items at the Chapel Auditorium. Guests will be asked to return prohibited items to a parked vehicle. Indiana Wesleyan University is not responsible for items left behind, lost, stolen, or damaged.

The following items are prohibited inside the Chapel Auditorium and are causes for removal.

  • Outside beverages, other than bottled water
  • Balloons
  • Use of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and smokeless cigarettes/tobacco
  • Tripods, monopods, or selfie sticks for cameras/phones
  • Sticks, poles, or similar objects that can be used as a weapon
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Fireworks, drones, or laser pointers
  • Artificial noisemakers (example: air horns, thunderstixs, musical instruments, cans filled with contents, whistles, cow bells, or any other item used to make artificial noise)
  • Clothing deemed obscene, indecent, and or offensive
  • Banners or signs larger than 3’ X 2’

All other guests should go directly to the Chapel Auditorium.

BEGIN TO LINE UP
  • On the paw prints at:
    • 9:30 a.m. for the 10:00 a.m. service
    • 2:00 p.m. for the 2:30 p.m. service
CEREMONY LIVE STREAM
  • For your guests who are unable to attend today, the ceremonies will be live streamed. The link, which will be active prior to each ceremony, can be found by visiting indwes.edu/academics/commencement.
PREPARING FOR COMMENCEMENT
  • Your tassel should be on the RIGHT SIDE of your cap
  • Graduates will line-up and be led to the Chapel
  • Be sure to take your NAME CARD and PROGRAM with you
  • Remain standing after you have been directed to your seat
UNIVERSITY REGALIA

Only university-approved stoles and honor cords are permitted to be worn during the ceremony.

If you have a personalized stole, or one that has not been approved by the university, we ask that you remove it and leave it in your seat in the chapel before walking across the stage. When you return to your seat, you may put your stole back on.

COMMENCEMENT
  • You will be dismissed by rows and led to the stage. You will be given your diploma cover as you enter the stage.
  • TAKE YOUR NAME CARD. You will hand it to the person announcing your name.
  • You will be directed toward center stage for your name to be announced
  • Follow the carpeted runway to the President
  • Turn to face the camera for a professional photo to be taken
  • Exit the stage and return to your seat

OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS

You can order an official transcript by logging into your Parchment account or by visiting indwes.edu/registrar/transcript. Please allow 1-2 weeks for processing.

DIGITAL DIPLOMAS

Indiana Wesleyan University now offers digital diplomas, at no additional cost!

Digital diplomas will be sent via email and text message within 2 weeks after your degree conferral. Digital diplomas can be faster to access and be shared on social media. Be aware that all financial accounts must be settled before receiving your diploma.

DIPLOMAS

Your paper diploma will be mailed to the address you provided on your graduation application. Please allow up to 4 weeks for delivery. Be aware that all financial accounts must be settled before receiving your diploma.

IWU BOOKSTORE

Open today from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The bookstore is in the Barnes Student Center. They have diploma frames, IWU wear, blankets, mugs, and more!

  • Baldwin Cafeteria: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Chick-Fil-A Express: 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • McConn Coffee: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
