Faculty Profile
Michele Chaleunphonh is a graduate of North Park University located in Chicago, Illinois; Washington University (Program in Occupational Therapy) in St. Louis, Missouri; and Indiana University (IUI) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Currently, she is a PhD student in the Health Professions Education (HPE) program at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Chaleunphonh has 25 years of experience in direct client care occupational therapy services in hospitals (2 ½ years) and school-based practice settings (22 ½ years). During her years of school-based practice, she served on several teams: play-based evaluation teams, a district-wide inter-professional autism team, and partnered with the assistive technology department. She also served as a Fieldwork Educator (8 years) for occupational therapy assistant students (OTAs) and occupational therapy students (MSOT, entry level OTD). Her research poster presentation, Occupational Therapy and the School to Home Partnership, was featured at the INOTA state fall conference, AOTA's child and youth conference, and AOTA's national conference. She has co-presented poster presentations at conferences on topics of hospice, effectiveness of virtual reality in older adults (SR) with an IWU interprofessional team, and the potential role for OT in SV prevention-programming. Dr. Chaleunphonh participates (as a mentor) in AOTA’s New Educator’s Mentoring Program (NEMP), serves on the INOTA board as a co-facilitator of the Children and Youth Special Interest Section (CYSIS), and is a member of IWU’s IRB committee. Dr. Chaleunphonh joined the IWU occupational therapy department in January 2022. She has been married to Seuth Chaleunphonh for 27+ years and has four adult-children. She is thankful for crossing paths with caring and inspiring people on life's journey and for God's presence in all circumstances.
