Dr. Sam Young comes to Indiana Wesleyan from Baylor University, where he received his PhD in American History and served as a post-doctoral teaching fellow. He studies the history of Christianity, and is especially interested in the religious and cultural history of nineteenth-century America. His dissertation examined the reception of Martin Luther in early America, and he has published peer-reviewed articles in the U.S. Catholic Historian, Lutheran Quarterly, and Church History. He was the 2021 recipient of the Sidney E. Mead prize from the American Society of Church History and is currently researching a religious history of early baseball.

INTERESTS

In his free time, Dr. Young enjoys spending time outside with his family (wife Cassie, son Oliver, and daughter Faye) and cheering on his favorite baseball team, the Milwaukee Brewers.
