Leadership Specialization

The Leadership specialization at Indiana Wesleyan University offers a unique opportunity for those looking to forge a path in leadership ministry, combining the convenience of a ministry degree online with the depth of on-the-ground leadership training. This program by way of Wesley Seminary is specifically designed to equip students with a core set of leadership, management, and communication skills essential for effective participation in God’s mission in the world. Drawing on the rich teachings of Drs. John and Vera Mae Perkins, the curriculum integrates eight foundational components that include Relocation, Reconciliation, Redistribution, Leadership Development, Listening to Community, Church-Based, Wholistic, and Empowerment, guiding students towards a comprehensive understanding of Christian leadership in a ministry context.

The Leadership specialization is a carefully structured program that encourages students to develop their own philosophy of Christian leadership while mastering the art of integrating critical leadership skills into ministry settings. Comprising one required course and three electives, this 12-credit hour specialization is tailored to prepare future ministry leaders to address the challenges of contemporary ministry with innovative solutions, compassion, and a deep commitment to justice and community empowerment.

What Will I Learn in the Leadership Program?

Students enrolled in this program will delve into the practicalities of living among the people they serve (Relocation), fostering reconciliation in divided communities, ensuring just distribution of resources (Redistribution), and nurturing future leaders (Leadership Development).
