Covid-19 Guidelines for Indiana Wesleyan University

Updated: August 29, 2023

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, IWU has remained committed to partnering with local and state officials to regularly monitor public health trending and adjust guidelines as needed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students and employees. This has included increasing or relaxing guidelines when local health conditions warrant it. The following revised guidelines apply to all IWU onsite students and employees regardless of vaccination status or acquired immunity.

Masks

  • Masks are not required in any buildings or at any public gatherings.
  • Masks are recommended for individuals who are high risk for COVID-19, or are experiencing common symptoms of COVID-19.

Contact Tracing

  • We will no longer be contact tracing among students or employees.
  • Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 are encouraged to notify any close contacts they have had 48 hours prior to testing positive or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Individuals who identify as being in close contact with a COVID-19 positive case should monitor their symptoms and get tested on or after day 5 of exposure, but are otherwise expected to resume normal activities with no restrictions.

Symptomatic

  • Individuals who experience COVID-19 symptoms must self-quarantine and get tested as soon as possible in order to determine if isolation is needed.
  • Students on the Marion campus who experience COVID-19 symptoms should contact the Wildcat Health Clinic.
  • COVID-19 testing is available to students and employees on the Marion campus in the Wildcat Health Clinic.

Isolation

  • Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate for 5 days from when their symptoms started, or from their test date if they had no symptoms when they tested.
  • Isolation should take place at home, but isolation in a designated residence hall is available for students on the Marion campus who are not able to go home for the isolation period.
  • On days 6—10 after the isolation period, it is recommended   that individuals wear a mask when in public.

Services Available on the Marion Campus

  • The Wildcat Health Clinic, located in the Barnes Student Center, is the central
point of medical care for students on the Marion campus (employees may also utilize the clinic).
  • The Wildcat Health Clinic will maintain communication with students on the Marion campus who test positive for COVID-19 or report that they have COVID-19 symptoms.
  • The Wildcat Health Clinic works with academic leaders on the Marion campus and the Center for Student Success to document excused absences for faculty reference.
  • The Events and Conference Services team is responsible for logistics related to students who need to isolate on the Marion campus.

Communication

  • Students are responsible for communicating with professors, coaches, or supervisors if they have to be absent due to COVID-19.
  • The Center for Student Success will also communicate with faculty on the Marion campus to verify if a student, in their course, is in isolation.
  • Employees are responsible for communicating with their supervisors and supervisees if they have to be absent due to COVID-19.
  • Any questions or concerns related to IWU’s COVID-19 guidelines may be emailed to:   Covid19@indwes.edu.

IWU Regional Sites

  • Students at regional sites, and those who reside in states outside of Indiana, should be mindful of any local/regional health guidelines that may apply to their locality.
