ASN-MSN in Primary Care Nursing with a Specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing

The ASN-MSN in Primary Care Nursing with a Specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing is designed to prepare registered nurses as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP) for independent and interprofessional clinical practice to treat psychiatric mental health conditions of people across the lifespan. Through a comprehensive curriculum, students holding an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree will be able to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree, allowing them to specialize in a specific area of nursing and pursue advanced practice roles in less time than it would take to first earn a bachelor’s. Students learn essential decision-making skills and take direct accountability for diagnosing and treating individuals with psychiatric mental health and co-occurring medical conditions. Graduates who complete this collegiate nursing education will be equipped with the skills required to become adept health practitioners working in advanced nursing practice.

Why Pursue My ASN-MSN in Primary Care Nursing at IWU?

This IWU master’s program combines a comprehensive and detailed approach to the field of primary care nursing. All faculty are working NPs with extensive knowledge and experience in therapy and med management. They are excited to educate the next generation of PMHNPs to help the growing behavioral health population and improve health outcomes nationwide through evidence based practice and a strong primary nursing care model. This MSN program also allows students to bypass their bachelor’s degree, moving straight from their associates to their master’s. All courses also include faith integration allowing students to learn and grow in an environment where the connection between faith and work is evident.

What will I Learn in this ASN-MSN in Primary Care Nursing Program?

Throughout this program, students will learn essential information in both challenging and enjoyable ways across courses with both clinical and didactic components. Students will develop the person centered care skills needed to excel in their professional nursing practice. Students will also be able to enjoy focusing on one course at a time, performing clinical work in their own community, learning from a primary nursing model, and benefiting from a flexible online structure. Students will accrue a minimum of 820 practicum hours and attend an onsite residency in advanced health assessment as well as two on-site intensives.
