Bachelor's in Computer Information Systems

A Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems prepares you for careers such as web or applications software development, systems analyst, systems administrator, network architect, database manager, and many others. Since CIS majors may work in an industry or area of commerce that is not computer specific, they also choose a sequence of coursework from a specialization area such as Business, Communications, Graphic Design, Internet Development, or a custom-designed track in another discipline. The employment growth rate in computer-related occupations is nearly twice the average overall job growth and job placement rates are very high. Wages reflect this demand; the median annual salary for starting computing major graduates is among the highest of all majors.

At present, designated tracks include business, communications, computer graphics, and Internet development. Additionally, a student may elect an independent track in another appropriate discipline and work with an academic advisor from that department to design a set of supporting courses in support of a CIS major.

  • Completion of 124 semester hours; however, some majors may result in the student earning greater than 124 credit hours by graduation.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Completion of the designated semester hours in the major area with a GPA of 2.25 or higher as required by the major. Additional requirements as prescribed by each department must also be met.
