If you are undecided about which major you want to pursue, the Exploratory program at Indiana Wesleyan University can be the key to developing your professional path. You do not have to be decided and determined about moving in a specific direction or having a major declared before starting your education. Many students change their major more than once, and exploring as you learn can be a great way to earn credits that will apply to the program you eventually commit to. Exploratory is the second largest incoming academic program at IWU (behind Nursing) with a persistence rate of 94%. At our Christian university, you can learn how to integrate biblical perspectives with this exploratory studies program.
Why Pursue Exploratory at IWU?
There are several benefits to beginning college as an Exploratory student. This program is taught by faculty with experience in a wide variety of professional roles and industries. With the guided support this program includes, students create a plan for their education that aligns with their career goals. Students also benefit from student services, including from personalized coaching and advising to tutoring to tech support. Faculty mentor students spiritually too, sharing their Christ-centered beliefs so students can integrate biblical truths in a fulfilling career.
What Will I Learn in this Exploratory Program?
The Exploratory program is structured around the Life Calling Model along with current research around life and career calling. Exploratory students take part in the Introduction to Life Calling course during their first semester on campus. In this course, students explore vocation through the lens of personal mission and God’s grand design for all of us. Additionally, students are challenged to grow personally, spiritually, and professionally through meaningful discussions and activities. Most students in the exploratory program are confident enough to declare a major by Christmas break, while the remaining students declare by the end of the academic year.
