Certificate in Special Education Teaching

Are you a licensed teacher with a passion for serving and empowering students? It's time to broaden your impact with a Special Education Teaching Certificate at Indiana Wesleyan University. Our special education certificate sets you on the path to becoming a licensed special education teacher. Grow your professional skills and prepare yourself to enhance the lives of students with disabilities.

Why Pursue My Special Education Certificate Online at IWU?

The Special Education Teaching Certificate provides an 18-credit hour post-baccalaureate program for practicing classroom teachers seeking training in special education for students with mild disabilities. Candidates completing the 18-credit hour special education certificate program qualify for Indiana licensure and gain content and pedagogical knowledge aligned with the initial licensure standards established by the Council for Exceptional Children, state licensure requirements for Indiana, and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation's advanced-level program standards. Our special education certificate courses are designed to provide participants with methods and materials to serve students with exceptionalities through mild intervention.

Prior to applying to the program, candidates seeking licensure are responsible for being knowledgeable of the licensure requirements of their state and whether IWU's special education certificate program satisfies the requirements of the state in which they are seeking licensure.

What Will I Learn in a Special Education Certificate Program?

Our online special education certificate for teachers is designed to prepare you to collaborate with families, colleagues, and related service providers to develop individualized, culturally responsive learning plans for students with exceptionalities. You will learn how to identify diverse cultural and linguistic needs to create safe, inclusive learning environments by implementing evidence-based behavioral interventions for students with exceptionalities.
